Beijing Zoo
China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. On the other hand, this country has remained a comparatively isolated and secluded one, and being a land of mystery, this country is not known to the western half of the world. However, China is rapidly developing and has grown in the phase of modernization, with an immense speed and is also welcoming the outer world to interact and do business with them. Beijing Zoo is one of the famous tourist attractions in China. This zoo was established in 1906 and was unveiled to the public in 1908. This zoo is spread on an area of about 10 hectares and has a few modest pavilions to house the animals. Presently, it covers an area of about 50 hectares with the several animal houses and enclosures. The total floor space of 40,000 square meters, include those for pandas, elephants, brown and polar bears, tigers, hippopotami, rhinoceros, antelopes, giraffes, reptiles and many. More than 6,000 animals of over 500 species are on a show that also include the species on a verge of extinction. Among them are giant pandas, golden monkeys, addaxes, tigers from Northeast China, elks, yaks, precious birds and gold fish. Also on show are rare animals from various continents, such as hippopotami, zebras, giraffes. Chimpanzees, lions and antelopes from Africa, parrots from South America, birds and kangaroos from Australia, polar bears from the Arctic, bison from Europe and Asian apes. Beijing Zoo also has the most famous mammal species in the world including the giant panda which came into existence 600,000 to 700,000 years ago. Subsequent drastic changes in the climate resulted in deforestation which threatened its existence. To protect this rare animal, the Chinese Government has established 10 nature reserves in places where pandas are found. Beijing Zoo, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place. The refreshing milieu, natural vegetation, best exhibition of threatened species of animals offer the most pleasant site for tourists to enjoy their vacations.
