Bell Tower & Drum Tower
China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. On the other hand, this country has remained a comparatively isolated and secluded one, and being a land of mystery, this country is not known to the western half of the world. However, China is rapidly developing and has grown in the phase of modernization, with an immense speed and is also welcoming the outer world to interact and do business with them. The Bell Tower and the Drum Tower are the most popular tourist attractions in China. The Bell Tower was built in 1889 and houses an enormous cast bell made in 1388. the Tower is situated just west of the Drum Tower and itself is a charming two story pavilion. There is also a memorial hall that is dedicated to the two daughters of the artisan who created the bell. The earliest documentary reveals that when the craftsman failed to make the perfect blend of metals to create the bronze, knowing that their father was facing certain execution, the two daughters threw themselves into the metal that unbelievably became perfect.
The Drum Tower was established in 1382 and is located in central Nanjing. Earlier, the tower housed several drums and other instruments for ceremonial use, hence the name Drum Tower. However, only one of the original drums remains today. These drums were used to signal the changing of the guards and on occasion were used to announce emergency conditions. Visitors can examine this ancient building which has partly been rehabilitated into at teahouse and also visit the exhibition hall which has a selection of paintings and calligraphy. The Bell Tower and the Drum Tower, justifiably so, enjoy a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers.
