Dazu
China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. On the other hand, this country has remained a comparatively isolated and secluded one, and being a land of mystery, this country is not known to the western half of the world. However, China is rapidly developing and has grown in the phase of modernization, with an immense speed and is also welcoming the outer world to interact and do business with them. Dazu County is one of the popular tourist attractions in China. It is located almost 160 kilometers to the northwest direction of Chongqing and is famous for its spectacular Buddhist cave sculptures. There are thousands of cave sculptures and carvings scattered around this area with two main groups at Baoding and Beishan. Beishan is 2 kilometers away from the town of Dazu and has over 290 caves featuring about 10,000 statues. Most of the carvings in Dazu were done between the 9th and 11th centuries. Baoding is located almost 15 kilometers from Dazu and also has over 10,000 carvings and are considered to be more interesting. One of the most impressive carvings is the complex heel of life that features a self portrait of the founder who was a monk named Zhao Zhifeng. Other carvings to view include eight layers of hell and equital of parental kindness. The carvings are thought to have been created over a period of 70 years since 1179. Dazu, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited places. It is well known for the quantity of cultural related notion and can boast the presence of architectural treasures of great interest. Moreover, the rich heritage and sanctified being of surrounding locality refreshes the mind.
