Great Wild Goose Pagoda
China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. On the other hand, this country has remained a comparatively isolated and secluded one, and being a land of mystery, this country is not known to the western half of the world. However, China is rapidly developing and has grown in the phase of modernization, with an immense speed and is also welcoming the outer world to interact and do business with them. The Great Wild Goose Pagoda was established in the 3rd year of the Yonghui reign of the Tang Dynasty, when Li Zhi, Emperor Gaozong, built it to settle the Sutra Classics brought back by Monk Xuan Zang from India. Unfortunately, the temple was destroyed by war in the late Tang Dynasty, and all the halls are now in ruin, only with the pagoda still standing there. Today, all the extant architectures in the temple were rebuilt in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The 7 story Great Wild Goose Pagoda was built in 652 AD. It is a striking elegant building and is the symbol of Xian. The famous Buddhist monk Xuan Zang returned from a 17 year pilgrimage and the square pagoda was built to house, the approximate 600 Buddhist texts that he had collected in India. The Great Wild Goose Pagoda, formerly named the Pagoda of the Ci'en Temple or the Non-Leak Temple, was built in the Sui Dynasty. In the 21st year of the Zhenguan reign of the Tang Dynasty, Prince Li Zhi expanded the temple in memory of his dead mother, Queen Wende, and then renamed this temple as the Grand Mercy and Favor Temple. In this temple, there are 1,897 pavilions, halls and monastic rooms. Many famous Chinese ancient painters such as Yan Liben, Yuchiyi Monk, Wu Daozi, and Yin Lin, etc., all once stayed there painting. Great Wild Goose Pagoda justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place. The refreshing milieu, best geographical environment and the best quality of life around the Great Wild Goose Pagoda offers the most pleasant site for tourists to enjoy their vacations. Its beauty and place in history captivates, and many visitors return again and again.
