Old Summer Palace

China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. On the other hand, this country has remained a comparatively isolated and secluded one, and being a land of mystery, this country is not known to the western half of the world. However, China is rapidly developing and has grown in the phase of modernization, with an immense speed and is also welcoming the outer world to interact and do business with them.

The Old Summer Palace is one of the popular tourist attractions in China and is admired for its cultural related notion. The ruins of the Old Summer Palace are located a few hundred meters away from the existing Summer Palace, not far from the Beijing and Qinghua Universities. The palace and park were built under the Qing emperors in the 18th century. The grounds were at the time referred to as the garden of perfect purity and a classic example of Chinese landscape gardening. Emperor Yonzheng redesigned and extended the park, but it was Emperor Qianlong who brought it to European splendor.

The northern entrance of the palace is defended by two stone lions and the little paths lead to a field of ruins. Unpredictably, visitors find the remains of pillars and frescos that are more likely to be associated with the European baroque style than with Chinese imperialism.

The grounds remain an oasis among the hustle and bustle of modern day Beijing. Visitors can enjoy the composure and splendor of the Fu Hai Lake where in the summer, paddle and rowing boats can be hired. There is also a Garden History Exhibition Hall with drawings and models of the palace in its former glory as well as a synopsis of the history of the Old Summer Palace. The maze was also restored in concrete form by French architects and historians in the 1980s.

Although, Old Summer Palace meant the partial loss of its tourist profile due to urbanization, some features of its past times of splendor still remain. This palace also adds to the beauty of China and this fact has consolidated along with abroad tourists visiting the place, making it the most favorite holiday destination for most of the vacation lovers.
