Temple of the White Dagoba
China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. On the other hand, this country has remained a comparatively isolated and secluded one, and being a land of mystery, this country is not known to the western half of the world. However, China is rapidly developing and has grown in the phase of modernization, with an immense speed and is also welcoming the outer world to interact and do business with them. The White Dagoba has its own history of more than 700 years. It was initially built from 1271 to 1279 during the Yuan Dynasty and was designed and constructed by a famous Nepali at that time. In the same year after the dagoba was built, a magnificent temple was constructed with the dagoba as its centerpiece. The Temple of the White Dagoba, standing just over 50 meters high, is the largest Dagoba from the Yuan dynasty. The temple was completed in under the supervision of a Nepalese architect and it was considered an aesthetic masterpiece. Kublai Khan later established a Lama temple in front of the Dagoba but it was destroyed, then rebuilt and renamed as the Miaoying temple during the Ming dynasty. The temple was also used as a factory during the Cultural Revolution and suffered from an earthquake in 1976, but was restored in the 1980s. The four existing halls contain Buddhist sculptures from the Yuan and Ming dynasties and Tibetan tankas. During the restoration, Buddhist scriptures and other relics dating from emperor Qianlong’s reign were discovered. The Temple of the White Dagoba adds to the beauty of China and this fact has consolidated along with abroad tourists visiting the place, making it the most favorite holiday destination for most of the vacation lovers.
