White Horse Temple

White Horse Temple is one of the popular tourist attractions in China and is admired for its culture related notion. The temple was built by Emperor Ming in honor of two monks, She Moteng and Zhu Falan and their white horse that brought Buddhist sutras and Buddhist figures on its back to China. During the construction of the monastery, the two monks translated the sutras in the temple until they completed Forty-two Chapter Sutra, which attracted many monks and meant that the temple became a centre for Buddhist activity in China. Owing to this reason, the temple is honored as the Founder's Home and the Cradle of Buddhism in China.
The White Horse Temple is located about seven miles away from the city of Louyang and is covered with green trees and appears solemn and tranquil. To the east and west of the gate of the temple are the tombs of She Moteng and Zhu Falan, which are one of the six most famous sights in the temple. In the east corner stands a tablet pavilion with Chinese characters which are the work of a Chinese calligrapher abbot Shamen Wencai, designed during the Yuan Dynasty. They are written in his familiarly free and easy style and describe the history of the temple.
The temple possesses grand antique architecture which has remained undamaged for over 1,900 years. The Hall of Heavenly Kings, Hall of the Great Buddha, Hall of Mahavira, Hall of Guidance and the cool and clear terrace appear in proper order in the temple, as they were when it was first built.
The White Horse Temple, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place. The refreshing milieu, gentle breeze, best geographical environment and the best quality of life around the temple offers the most pleasant site for tourists to enjoy their vacations.
