White Pagoda Park
China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. On the other hand, this country has remained a comparatively isolated and secluded one, and being a land of mystery, this country is not known to the western half of the world. However, China is rapidly developing and has grown in the phase of modernization, with an immense speed and is also welcoming the outer world to interact and do business with them. White Pagoda Park is one of the popular tourist attractions in China and is located in the north of Lanzhou City. The park owes its name to the amazing White Pagoda within it. With images and carvings of Buddha on its eight sides, the seven-story pagoda with a height of 17 meters is pure white from top to bottom with the exclusion of the green top which greatly increases the glamour of the whole building. The earliest known documentary reveals that the White Pagoda was built in honor of a well known Tibetan Lama who died of an illness in Lanzhou when on his way to Mongolia as diplomat of the leader of Sakyapa in order to meet Genghis Khan. Unfortunately, the original pagoda later toppled down. The present White Pagoda was built by an official in the reign of Emperor Yingzong of the Ming Dynasty that lasted from 1368 to 1644 century and later extended by an imperial inspector in Qing Dynasty. White Pagoda Park was opened to the public in 1958. The park possesses three stately and splendid ancient architectural complexes within it. These harmonize with the surrounding natural landscape and the White Pagoda Mountain beyond. The mountain was once famed for its three treasures, the elephant skin drum, bronze bell, and redbud that withered long ago. White Pagoda Park also possesses special features that include the Mysterious Yellow River Stone Hall and the Yugur Reception Counting House. The park affords a bird's eye view of the whole of Lanzhou City and White Pagoda Mountain with the Zhongshan Bridge at its foot. The way in which the bridge and mountain complement each other forms a very picturesque scene. Picturesque with beautiful flowers, wildlife and a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside, the White Pagoda Park, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers.
