Dali
China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. Dali, a city in Yunnan province in the People's Republic of China, which was the capital of the Kingdom of Dali, and the sultanate established by Muslims during the Panthay rebellion. Yunnan is a province of the People's Republic of China, located in the far southwestern corner of the country. The city has a area of 394,100 square kilometers and the population as of 2004 was 44,150,000. It has a density of 112 per square kilometers. Yunnan is the most southwestern province in China, with the tropic of cancer running through its southern part. The province has an area of 394,000 square kilometers, 4.1 percent of the nation's total. The province borders Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and Guizhou province in the east, Sichuan province in the north, and Tibet autonomous region in the northwest. It shares a border of 4,060 kilometers with Myanmar in the west, Laos in the south, and Vietnam in the southeast. The Yuanmou Man, a Homo erectus fossil unearthed by railway engineers in the 1960s, has been determined to be the oldest known hominid fossil in China. By the Neolithic period, there were human settlements in the area of Lake Dian. These people used stone tools and constructed simple wooden structures. Presently, Dali experiences a sharp social, economic and population growth derivative of the strategic position of the locality and the high level of well-being and quality of life that is enjoyed with respect to other places of China. This fact has consolidated along with other adjacent cities, as a great alternative for residence.
